Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 package Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Covered Pretzels, whole
  • ½ cup Gertrude Hawk Peanut Butter Cups, chopped

Instructions

Boo-tiful Bark in 7 Easy Steps

  1. Prepare Base: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a larger pan and use a nonstick baking mat.
  2. Melt Chocolate: In separate bowls, melt dark chocolate and melting wafers until smooth.
  3. Assemble Layers: Spread melted dark chocolate evenly over the parchment. Place pretzels in an even layer (covering the bottom) and chopped peanut butter cups on top. Slightly press the cups down into the pretzel base.
  4. Swirl Colors: Divide the white chocolate into two bowls — tint one green and one purple or skip this step if using pre-colored melting wafers. Drizzle one color over the bark then add the second color on top - use a skewer or knife to create spooky swirls.
  5. Decorate: Add candy eyes, bones, and sprinkles or your preferred toppings while the chocolate is still soft.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes or freeze for 10 minutes until firm.
  7. Break & Serve: Once set, break or cut into pieces and enjoy!

Recipe Success Tips

  • Using a whisk attachment, whip your room-temperature butter for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes white and smooth. This crucial step ensures a light, fluffy frosting without an overwhelming butter taste.
  • Start to slowly add about a cup of powdered sugar at a time while your mixer is on low. Stop mixing as soon as the powdered sugar has combined with the butter.
  • Add in your vanilla, salt and green food coloring. Start with a small amount of coloring and gradually add more to achieve your desired shade of Easter grass green.
  • Turn your mixer on medium speed for 1-2 minutes and then increase to high speed until smooth and fluffy, about 5 minutes more.
  • While it whips, slowly drizzle in your warm water or cream until you reach your desired consistency. Remember that thinner frosting will be less stable for detailed piping.
  • To remove air bubbles and create a smooth, silky buttercream, switch to a paddle attachment and let the mixer run on the lowest setting for 10-15 minutes.
